Aquarium of the Pacific

Another field trip with our new homeschool group, The Aquarium of the Pacific. We were able to get in at a group rate which was about a third the price of regular admission. Pretty good deal. It was a bit bigger than most other aquariums we’ve been to and had some larger animals as well. There were also multiple touch tanks, though my kids didn’t always want to touch. Hannah took ‘her camera’ with us, but was disappointed in most of her pictures. I find it’s hard to take pictures through the glass too! We didn’t sit for any of the shows/talks, which isn’t normally how we do it, but one of the moms is a volunteer there so she showed us around instead. We did get to see them feeding in some of the tanks, which brought out some of the animals that are usually harder to see like the eels. The only turtle we saw was hiding under a log so didn’t get to see him swimming. I didn’t get a pic of the sea otters, but they were huge. Much larger than the regular otters you see in the zoos.
My favorite part was the shark eggs. They had some on display that they had cut windows out of (and replaced with plastic) so you could see the baby sharks inside. Very cool. I think the kids had a good time, we stayed there over 3 hours, longer than I thought they would last, so yay for exceeding expectations. We got all the stamps in our little booklet too, so I’m pretty sure we didn’t miss very much.
