I’m excited to be able to join the March blog party and this month’s prompt is: Share the best homeschooling advice you have been given. What would you advise new homeschoolers?

I used to try to get everyone who I knew who homeschooled to try to tell me “how they did it”. I wanted to know their methods and little tricks. . . but over time I’ve learned that other people’s tricks and schedules don’t always work for me or my kids. So, now I tell people they just have to figure out what works for them as a teacher and their children as students (and the answer isn’t buying a new curriculum). While I may tell them how I do something at my house, I try to point out that it may not work in their situation. I point them to learning style information as well as any other topics about how to teach to your children’s strengths. I guess my advice is “Make your homeschool your own!” It supplements some great parenting advice I’ve picked up somewhere along the way. . . “Don’t compare!”
