4th 6 Weeks

Hannah finished up week 24 of our 2nd half of world history this past week. I think we are on track to finish by the end of Aug and go straight into 3rd grade in Sept. 🙂

Hannah’s bible readings finished up the life of Christ and have since been working through the book of Esther and Joshua. Esther is her favorite story so that was fun. She still listens in with Ben’s readings. She memorized the books of the OT. She is memorizing Psalm 121 right now as well as having some memory work for her scout group.

In history/social studies, we’ve been through the reformation, the Elizabethan Age, Kings of England and France, Russian Tsars, Asian Empires and the American and French Revolutions, just finishing Napoleon. It was a quick tour but we come back again in a few years. We read some fun books biographies on Michelangelo, Queen Elizabeth, and Peter the Great.
We also finished our tour of the world’s countries with a book and CD called Geography Songs. It’s been a lot of fun and is a huge accomplishment.

Read Alouds continue to have a couple Aesop Fables and a couple poems each week. We’ve worked through The School Story, White Stallion of Lipizza, and The Twenty-One Balloons.

For Hannah’s readings, we did Viking Adventure, House on Walenska Street, and Cora Frear. She writes at least one assignment in cursive each week and has been doing fairly well on her spelling words. We’ve had some creative poem assignments and working on letter format.

In Science, we finished a unit on all types of birds. Now, we are working through a unit on weather. Not so many experiments, more observation activities and graphing weather and rain.

For math, she finished the first have of her workbook so we are taking some time to get a little better at our memory work using our digital flashcards. It isn’t her favorite, but when she does good, she is happy.

Extras have started to be filled up with the work we are doing for Mpact Girls, our new scouting activity. We meet once a week, but there is memory work to practice and sometimes extra weekend activities. We also toured the local arboretum, had a field day, and went to the zoo for endangered species day with our homeschool group. We try to make park day once a week and usually end up having a playdate with friends somewhere in there too. She recently completed the typing program for this year and we try to do practice work a couple times a week.
