11/18/2009:
Benjamin Henry Moehring arrived at 1:35 PM on Monday November 16, 2009. He weighed 8 lbs 13 oz, was 20 1/2 in long, with 14 1/2 in head circumference. Benjamin has biblical origins meaning “son of the right hand” and he was the favored son of Jacob and Rachel. Its also about the same popularity as Hannah as a baby name. We’re not sure exactly how we picked it other than we already had Henry as the middle name and it seemed to go best. Henry is significant since Beccas maternal grandfather has 17 grandchildren (and now 3 great grandchildren) and no boy namesakes!
We were saddened to discover that Hannah was not allowed to come to the hospital since it is flu season. We were discharged last night and Hannah finally got to meet her baby brother.
Thankfully we have grandparents here through Thanksgiving to help celebrate and support.
11/12/2009:
Yes, today was my due date. No, baby boy Moehring has not decided to come out to play (yet).
We had a check-up appointment this morning. I’m 2-3 cm dilated and the doctor stripped my membranes in hopes of getting things going. This is actually better news than last time around when I had no dilation even on the day of my induction. An appointment to induce this little one is set up for next Thursday evening (19th) and my specific OB will be on call at the hospital starting next Friday. We’re still hoping to deliver before then – but at least there is an end in sight. Doctor estimates he weighs 7 ½ lbs which is about what Hannah was so we aren’t worried about him being too big. Even though my leave doesn’t officially start at work until the baby comes, I’m on “vacation”. The plan is to go back in January after the holiday shut downs.
In other news, Hannah has decided that she is a night owl (gets it from her dad) and has been getting up and playing in the 12:30 to 2:30 timeframe. Sometimes she stays in her room and sometimes she roams the house. We’ve been trying to ignore her so she will realize we aren’t going to play with her, but last night turned into a 2 hour screaming session when we put her back into her room. I guess we are getting some additional practice for sleepless nights.
10/8/2009:
Hi everyone!!
I’ve got about a month left. I had a checkup today and all my stats seem to be good. I’m up about 30 lbs, the doctor thinks the baby weighs about 6 lbs. I told a friend that we are to the “uncomfortable” stage now. Moved back into the bed since I wasn’t sleeping on the couch anyway. . . I have to get up about once an hour to go to the restroom and have to eat a snack a couple times a night.
I’m still not sure Hannah quite knows what’s coming but she either thinks my belly is called baby or she understands that there is a baby there. Sometimes though she points to her belly and says “baby”. We recently got a couple “big sister” books, so that should help.
We took some maternity photos and I think they turned out pretty well considering that Hannah was grumpy since it was her dinner time. You can view them here here. If you would like copies of any of them, let me know and I’ll forward.
After 3 weeks of searching and a few interviews and trial days, we found a nanny. My parents say she isn’t really a nanny since she doesn’t live with us, but whatever she is, she’s been working out great. Hannah seems to enjoy her and doesn’t seem to miss day care. Hopefully everything will continue to work out for us once the baby comes and all that.
Please keep my grandma and grandpa in your prayers. Grandma just had a second round of breast cancer surgery with some radiation to follow and Grandpa will be having surgery later this month. It will be quite tiring for them I’m sure. Also, we are very excited to find out that my sister is pregnant with their first. Lot’s of fun baby time to look forward to. . .
9/9/2009:
Only two months left. . .
I had a checkup today, I’m up 24 lbs. All my routine blood tests came back normal. Starting to get more tired toward the end of the day again. Our volleyball league is starting back up and I’m pretty sad that I don’t get to play this season. I’ve been going to the gym for some cardio and light lifting, just to keep my tone, hopefully that keeps me from going too crazy.
My neighbors convinced me that I should have a baby shower, but our theme is diapers. I think one of them just wanted an excuse to make cupcakes.
I don’t really need anything in particular since we are pretty set from round one with Hannah. For you out-of-towners, if you would like to participate, I’d welcome any prayers/words of inspiration/words of wisdom to put into the baby book. Yes, I do find time to work on scrapbooks, it just might take longer with two kiddos instead of one.
I’m looking at doing some maternity photos toward the end of the month, so will be able to send those out in our next update.
In other news, we have started an interview process to try to find a nanny. We looked at the costs for two kids in part-time daycare and realized we ought to be able to find a part-time in-home nanny for the same amount. Less germs, more personal attention. We’re not worried about our children not having any social skills as we find lots of opportunities for them to play with the neighbors and drag them with us to our stuff. We think this will be a fun new venture, as we will have to register for an employer ID with the IRS and have a whole extra schedule of forms to fill out come tax season. While I wouldn’t necessarily say we are business owners, we definitely have a lot to learn and do with the rental house and now an employee.
We’re taking advantage of our last weeks of freedom before my doctor wants us within an hour’s drive of the hospital by taking a trip to see Nate’s brother’s family who just moved to Idaho. Should be a bit cooler than here and since the grandparents will be visiting at the same time, we hope to have a little babymoon without Hannah!
8/2/2009:
I suppose its time for an update from the Phoenicians. I’ve had my 6 month checkup and a follow-up ultrasound for the amniotic band. Neither the tech or the doctor could detect any presence of bands or anything else that looked suspicious and the baby looked healthy and all the vitals were good. So, not sure what we saw last time, but not going to worry about it anymore.
I must have my second trimester energy because I had Nate get all the baby stuff out of the attic that we’ve been putting up there for 1 1/2 years. Clothes have been sorted and toys have been put in their new homes and the large items have been stowed in preparation for baby. Hannah had a pretty good time playing with all her old stuff and I kept reminding her that those will be brother’s toys. I think I’m pretty much done with the nesting now but Nate has quite a few things he keeps saying he wants to do “before Nov” so I’ve been accusing him of nesting too. J Baby has been more and more active at night, I’ll have to give up on good sleep for awhile and might move to the couch soon so I can recline and not have to lie on my side.
Hannah has been quite fun as she is starting to speak more understandably (at least to us) and learn new skills at day care and at home. She gets a little (understatement) frustrated when the communication paths aren’t working or anytime she gets told no. She recently fell onto a pen at daycare and is lucky she didn’t poke her eye. She is a big dare devil so I’m sure this won’t be her last scar. She has her 18 month checkup next week.
6/29/2009:
Well the ‘great debate’ was decided last Friday. I figured it would be easier living with my husband for the next 5 months if I let him find out the sex.
Hannah doesn’t quite understand the concept of “baby in my tummy” or “big sister”, but I’m sure she will catch on quick enough in Nov. In other news, she is basically potty training herself. We’ve had a little toilet for awhile and she has seen other kids use them, so the other day she gave me the sign for diaper, I put her on the potty, and she went! Since then she has gone a couple more times in the toilet as well as on my floor, and it would be nice to have her out of diapers (mostly) by the time bubba comes. She loves swimming in our little pool on the patio and playing in the bath tub. She enjoys the time right after bath because we let her run around naked until bed time, usually only 5 to 10 minutes or until we can catch her.
Well, if baby boy arrives healthy, he will be the second Moehring namesake as well as the first boy on my side of the family for quite a few years. Grandpa Diltz is pretty excited and has already noted that “Donald Glenn” isn’t such a bad sounding name.
Nate wouldn’t talk to me about names (it was all part of his strategy), so we’ll have to work on that one, but we probably won’t share.
5/26/2009:
I had my 4 month checkup this week as well and am feeling a little better now that I’m into the second trimester. I was very fatigued at first, but not much morning sickness. I did have a trip to the ER recently due to having a bit of the flu and getting too dehydrated. I hope not to repeat that experience, but am still fearful for the remaining summer months in Phoenix. We have yet to come to an agreement on whether we will find out the sex of the baby in a few weeks. I suppose we’ll let you know the results in our next update.
