Baby Hannah

Hannah Beth Moehring

Baby Moehring

2/9/2008:

At 10:25 AM on February 9th, we welcomed the newest member of the Moehring/Diltz families: Hannah Beth Moehring.

Hannah weighed in at 7 lbs 9 oz and 21 inches. Both mom and baby are joyful and healthy. I’m sure happiness will soon follow as soon as everyone is healed up. :)

Hannah put up quite a fight: 8 days late and 22 hours after the start of induction. Rebecca did great during all stages of the pregnancy and delivery. I am proud of what she accomplished and the attitude she maintained even when things got tough. It was my honor to be at her bed-side.

The name Hannah has significance to us for several reasons. First, it’s a pretty name and not very common. Second, it’s a palindrome, and that’s just cool. Third, Hannah is an inspirational character from the old testament who was barren until she dedicated her child to the Lord’s service. Through her faithfulness, the Israelites received one of their greatest spiritual leaders, Samuel. This story of hope resonates with us because of our own losses attempting to start our family, and because we are excited to see what the Lord will do through us and Hannah in the future.

Beth was a simple choice because Nate’s sister’s name is Beth and Becca’s sister’s middle name is Elizabeth. Plus it sounds good with Hannah. :)

For those of you who participated in this life-changing event through prayer and support, thank you! I know this experience would not have been nearly as positive without your help.

1/26/2008:

No, there is no baby yet. I promise we’ll let you all know when it comes. :)
We heard from a friend of ours that was also due on Feb 1 and they had their’s on Monday. So now we are really ready.

No, there are no contractions yet. Just lots of wiggling around and kicking my ribs. Dr appointment yesterday, everything Is looking good. I have another one next Thursday and if I haven’t gone into labor yet, the doctor said that we’ll discuss being induced. So, the last day for sure will be Feb 8 (which just happens to be Nate’s b-day, we’d rather have the baby earlier). Nate’s dad wants us to have it on his birthday which is the 28th, I wouldn’t mind that. Our niece thought it would be fun if we had it on Valentine’s day, but I guess that isn’t going to happen.

We think we have everything ready now, I guess we will have to see how many frantic trips to the store occur in the first couple of weeks.
I also cut all my hair off. I’ve never had it this short before, so it is a new experience. I definitely like that it only takes about 5 minutes to dry and I don’t have to put much/any effort into it. I am a little sad, but I’m quite sure it will grow back.

All right, next email will probably be an introduction to a new member of the family!

1/2/2008:

I am now officially ‘term’ which means if I go into labor, they won’t try to stop the contractions. :)

What has happened since the last update . . .

- 2 baby showers

- Trip to Fort Collins for Moehring Thanksgiving

- Trip to Disney in LA

- Visitors from Down Under

- Trip to Grand Canyon

- Mom and Dad came to visit for Christmas

- (and we missed the great Henry gathering for New Years, bummer)

I have had some version of the flu since the day after Christmas, it really knocked me out. And it didn’t help that I couldn’t take any of the good medications. In the few days that I was having fever, I didn’t feel the baby moving so I took a trip to the hospital to make sure everything was alright. Ultrasound came back good and baby has been moving around more again since then. They told me I was having some ‘practice’ contractions, but I couldn’t feel any. The baby has also dropped and even though I can’t believe it, I’ve been having to use the restroom even more than before.

I had a doctors appt today and my doctor thinks the baby weighs about 6 pounds. I lost a couple pounds (due to the sickness) but as you can see from the picture, I’m quite large (for me).

We went baby shopping with all our gift cards after Christmas and came up with some good deals. We now have almost all the essentials and the nursery is starting to look like a baby’s room. I just have some little projects I’d like to finish before baby arrives since I don’t think I’ll have time for them afterwards. Other than that, its now a waiting game.

11/16/2007: Well, not much has changed since last month. I’ve gained about 15 pounds total. It’s getting hard to put on my shoes in the morning. The doctor says the baby weighs about 2 pounds and will double over the next month. He also says that it’s head is down. Which I probably would have guessed since it seems to be punching me really low. It starts to get really active around 4 in the afternoon and does a little workout until around 7. Then it decides to take a break until I want to go to sleep around 9 or 9:30 and starts back up again. : We start seeing the doctor every two weeks now.

We are going on our last flight for quite awhile for Thanksgiving in Colorado with Nate’s family and we are looking forward to the Milne’s visit at the beginning of December. After that, no more travelling for us.

I have a baby shower at work in early December. That will be interesting as I’ve only ever been to one baby shower before and about half of the people coming are boys (including Nate). It’s a dessert party though, so I’m excited.

27 weeks
10/15/07: Today we had our 6 month appointment. Next month, I have to take the glucose test. The baby was healthy (heart was beating and doctor thinks it weighs about a pound), Ive gained a little bit of weight, and my belly is now 23cm, but not much has changed since our last email.

Im attaching a picture of my belly, sorry I dont have any of the baby yet, but Im assuming that you wont see very many pictures of me or Nate starting sometime in February.

I read recently that almost all women get an outie belly button when they are pregnant, I didnt know that. Im not sure if Im excited about that since my belly button is already starting to get a little sore and stretched. The baby has been kicking/punching. It hasnt been a lot or painful, but Nate has felt a couple of them, so hes a little bit more excited now.

Im reading a book I got for my birthday called The Mission of Motherhood which goes into the biblical role of mother and Im enjoying it so far.

Today, our 9 year old neighbor told us that her class at school has been praying for us. I thought that was pretty neat. Thank you all for your prayers, everything seems to be going well so far.

I think we have narrowed down names for both sexes now, which has been a little bit of a struggle. Im sure we will change our minds again soon.

9/7/2007: Now it starts to get harder to see the baby. This one is a picture from the back side with its head on the right.

According to our technician, baby has all the right internal organs and they all looked good. It’s about 7 inches (crown to rump) and 8 oz. The heart rate was 160 bpm. It was moving around a lot, but I don’t feel it very often yet. Nate is looking forward to being able to feel it too, but that will probably be awhile still.

8/20/2007: We had our 16 wk checkup this morning. We heard the heartbeat. It was 170 beats per minute. So, now I feel better knowing that all the stress I put the baby under, its still kicking. You may think that’s funny, but I really worry about that. So now, I feel less worried.

We will have our next ultrasound on Sept 7th. We would normally find out the sex at this appt, but we will have to remember to tell our tech that we don’t want to know and they won’t even put it on the report, so our doctor/nurse won’t know either. I think that is kinda nice.

My appointment next month will be with my doctor’s nurse, I guess so we can get to know her.

We discovered a resale store called Once Upon a Child and I’m pretty excited about it. I got a nice maternity shirt, some Baby Einstein CDs, and a gliding (rocking) chair. We had priced some at Baby’s R Us and Target, but this was a great deal. I’m going to put new fabric over the pillows to match our living room, but other than that, I’m ready to rock.

I’m starting to show a little bit even though I apparently haven’t gained any weight. Somehow my butt and belly have grown, so that doesn’t make any sense to me. I’ll put a couple new pics of me on our website some day.

Yay for baby!

7/19/2007: We had our 12 week checkup today which means we have a 99% chance of carrying our baby to term now! :
We saw the heartbeat on ultrasound at 9 weeks, but we couldn’t hear it today externally. We’ll definitely hear it next time.
I think I’m almost over the morning sickness, but today wasn’t so good.

As of right now, we do think we’ll be flying to Texas for Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately, doc says I will be grounded at Christmas. No coming to see the Milnes, but you guys are welcome to have a layover in Phoenix and I’ll come see you at the airport. ;) Or you can stay at our house for awhile if you want to get over the jetlag before going to MN.

Our next appointment is in a month and we’ll have another ultrasound in 6 weeks.

7/2/2007: Not much else to say right now. I’ll try to keep the page updated as we learn more. :)
