Haha. We discovered that is isn’t as easy to ‘double up’ days as it used to be. So I have to be more flexible with the schedule or we have to let the days slide. It isn’t a big deal as we school year round, but the week does have a flow to it that is nice when we do have normal weeks. American History II is a lot more tough topics but I think we’re getting through it pretty well. The books we have been reading have been from all different perspectives and interesting.

In Bible we’re working through John. Hannah memorized Psalm 103 this first unit. We also do her Prims curriculum and a devotional called Starting Strong for our morning family time.

In history/social studies we did a short time on the Gold Rush and then jumped right into the civil war. We have American Adventures I and Landmark History of the American People Vol 1 to read selections from and we’ve read Behind Rebel Lines and William Wilberforce (to give us a background on the slave trade). We also get a song from Wee Sing America each week that has a little bit of history behind it.

Read Alouds are longer so we really get to know the characters better. This unit we did Moccasin Trail and The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. We also have weekly selections from Oxford’s Illustrated Book of American Children’s Poems.

In Reading and Language we are finishing up Sequential Spelling 1 and working through Grammar Ace for grammar and Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4 for vocabulary. Hannah has a weekly dictation and Creative Writing assignment. She also read By The Great Horn Spoon!, Freedom Train, and Turn Homeward Hannalee

Science has been mostly spent finishing up 3rd grade science. But we’ve gotten two weeks of 4th grade under our belt with a book called Diary of an Early American Boy which is a wonderful look at the life of a young boy in our time period. We also are starting a unit on magnets with Discover and do Level 4 and TOPS Magnetism.

For math, we are working through Horizons 4. Right now we are in the review stage so hasn’t been any meltdowns.

Extras, of course, keep us busy. Typing, Piano, Girls Ministries, and weekly park days. We had a GM National Sleepover, a campout, and Hannah played in a 3rd and 4th grade volleyball league this fall. She really liked it and is looking forward to next season.

4th Grade is hard ya’ll! Haha.
