Nate and I have completed class 1 of a 6 week biblical parenting course and so far it has been pretty good. One of the points made was that if you don’t know God’s word and if you don’t have good habits reading the bible and praying, it is really hard (AKA just about impossible) to teach those things to your children. We shouldn’t even kid ourselves into thinking that those habits will come easier when our children are older either. <\/p>\n
So . . .
\nwhen I inspected my life and looked for those habits, I of course, didn’t find any. That’s not to say that I don’t read my bible or pray, but I am not consistent about it. I am however consistent about coming home around 5:00 and watching TV for an hour before deciding I’m hungry and eat dinner. I’ve also decided to trust what people are telling me about not having any time or energy after the baby is born.<\/p>\n
So . . .
\nI have to make those habits now.<\/p>\n
1) I’ve decided that TV time is gone. I’m not sure what I’ll do on days that I get home late from work or we go out for dinner (and someday soon I’m going to have to cook more). But I guess I’ll burn those bridges when I get there.
\n2) I’ve also decided that journal time is back. I need to write. AND I need to check up on you guys. This is pretty much the only communication I have with a lot of you and I’ve realized how much I’ve been missing lately.<\/p>\n
Lord, give me the strength to renew this dedication to forming good biblical and prayer habits. Guide me as I learn how to become a wonderful and loving mother while recognizing that sometimes the things I have to do will not make me my child’s best friend, but instead their best parent. Help me to realize my mistakes and ask for forgiveness from those I hurt.
