Benjamin finished up week 30 before Christmas break, but I haven’t had time (or taken the time) to sit down and write it up.<\/p>\n

Throughout the move and all the transitions, we continued with our daily readings from Ergermeier’s Children Bible. We made it to Jesus’ birth just in time for Christmas so that was fun. When we are done I think I’ll have him start listening in on Hannah’s readings. We completed memorizing a bible verse for every letter with Sing the Word from A to Z, but are going back and reviewing since it was a little spotty toward the end.<\/p>\n

In history\/social studies, we continue with our readings from the Usborne Encyclopedia and Living Long Ago. We also have a good amount of missionary stories spread out in our weeks.<\/p>\n

For read alouds, we finished Little House in the Big Woods<\/u>, James Herriot’s Treasury<\/u>, Light at Tern Rock<\/u>, and Beezus and Ramona<\/u>. Had a couple readings from Curious George<\/u> and Five True Dog Stories<\/u>, and started Dr. Doolittle<\/u>. Hannah was pretty excited when we started Doolittle and wants to listen in when we read it. We continue with our daily poetry reading.<\/p>\n

Benjamin has very nice handwriting and good imagination, but dislikes writing assignments. Otherwise, our LA and reading goes well. He finished I Can Read It Book 3<\/u>, The Best Trick<\/u>, Green Eggs and Ham<\/u>, Put me in the Zoo<\/u>, and Little Bear<\/u>.<\/p>\n

In Science, we read about Caterpillars and Butterflies and covered these topics in the encyclopedia: senses, body, energy, gravity, forces. It was the wrong season to order caterpillars, so we’ll be doing that this spring. We’ve had fun ‘tasting’ experiments and experiments with water.<\/p>\n

Math continues to go well. He basically already knew how to add and subtract because he loves to keep track of health points when he plays with his little monster figures. He finished Horizons K and moved into Horizons 1 during this set of weeks. Other topics he’s been working on are counting money and fractions.<\/p>\n

We don’t have a lot of extras going on right now. We joined a group here that does a weekly park day, so we try to make that. We also did a bowling day and went to see a children’s productions of Wizard of Oz and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. There is a monthly chess club that Benjamin likes and we are going to try to make that.
\nWe are enjoying spending a much larger portion of our time with family, especially at the holidays. We are also having a fun time exploring our land! We try to spend some time outside every day if we don’t have an outing. Ben enjoys finding animal prints and rocks or leaves shaped like hearts as well as throwing rocks into the creek.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
