Hannah finished up week 12 of Core C last week. I feel like we are starting to get into a routine with the expectations of a typical week and where we can slide things around to fit in our extra activities and field trips.<\/p>\n
We are still using Benjamin’s children’s bible for our morning devotion time, but Hannah has an additional reading that she does later in the morning. I am enjoying having an true bible reading with her and we have supplements from a book call Awesome Book of Bible Facts<\/u> that are pretty fun. She continues to do well with her weekly memorization verse.<\/p>\n
In history\/social studies, we finished up our unit on Vikings Then we moved into Knights and Castles. We’re learning about the Crusades and how the Holy Land has been a battle ground forever. I really enjoy our Child’s History of the World<\/u> and Usborne World History<\/u> spines. We also have a fun geography CD and find ourselves singing the catchy songs later in the day.<\/p>\n
For read alouds, we read a book on Vikings called Eric the Red and Leif the Lucky<\/u>. Then finished a book called Castle Diary<\/u> about a young boy who spends a year as a page in his uncle’s castle and are now reading a great Robin Hood book by Usborne. I have a couple other ones about him that I’ll let Hannah read when we are done and maybe we’ll watch one of the movies.<\/p>\n

In language, we’ve been working on how to structure a paragraph. We used a little program called Diamond Notes to teach her a way to think about the sentences she needs and how to tie them together. I think she’s doing pretty good. She’s been working on blends and digraphs for phonics. She read The Secret Valley<\/u>, Third Grade Detectives #1<\/u>, and The Chalk Box Kid<\/u>.<\/p>\n
We actually made it through 6 weeks of her Core C science so we’re keeping pace on that, just started a little late. We’re half Human Body studies and half animals. Ears, eyes, skin, nose, heart, digestive system, lungs, bears, zebras, sloths, wildebeests. She made an example of her inner ear with a water bottle and glitter in it, so she could see how when she spins and stops, the water keeps spinning and that is what makes you dizzy. She thought that was fun.
\nMath is going along. She is doing some early algebra equations and two digit by one digit multiplication.<\/p>\n

We’ve been pretty busy with extras in January and February. We had a house warming party, then we had cousin Lilly’s birthday, a friend’s princess birthday, and our combined birthday bash for Nate, Hannah, and Joel. We had a fun trip to a trampoline place, a Chuck E Cheese play date, and a field trip to the local arboretum with our hs group as well as our weekly park times. Hannah got an art desk for her birthday and has been putting it to good use.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
