So, 12 weeks down. It’s a good time for a break with Christmas festivities coming up. <\/p>\n
Hannah continues with a daily reading from the bible as well as working our way through the New Testament for Girl’s Ministries. We’ve moved into some longer passages for memorization, but she does them well. <\/p>\n
In history\/social studies, we finished our studies of the Incans, Mayans, and Aztecs and moved into the European discovery of the Americas and are now into early colonial history. We have two main spines: Smithsonian’s Children’s Encylopedia of American History<\/u> and The Landmark History of the American People<\/u>. I believe we’ll be in them for the rest of the year and maybe even some of next year. We also have a short prayer guide for Native American tribes (one each week).<\/p>\n
Our read alouds are getting longer and I’m realizing how hard it is to read outloud in the emotional parts. This unit we had Sign of the Beaver<\/u> and The Witch of Blackbird Pond<\/u>. Both good historical fiction that helps you learn about the time period.<\/p>\n

For language, Hannah seems to be doing well with Sequential Spelling and Wordly Wise 1 for vocabulary. She has one cursive assignment per week to keep it fresh. She had some nice readers this unit including: Squanto, Friend of Pilgrims<\/u>, The Thanksgiving Story<\/u>, and The Courage of Sarah Noble<\/u>. She also really enjoys our weekly assignment in A Child’s Introduction to Poetry<\/u>. It takes the different genres and explains them as well as providing examples of each.<\/p>\n
Science is always fun. We had some selections from Real Science 4 Kids Biology<\/u> including the Frog Life Cycle. We had a little bit out of Usborne Science Encyclopedia<\/u> about different types of energy. And most of the remaining content was about amazing animals in Mysteries and Marvels of Nature<\/u> and a supplemental DVD called Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution<\/u>.<\/p>\n
Math is math. We try to get 3 worksheets done a week out of our Horizons 3 set. One day a week she gets to ‘play’ Ipad math.<\/p>\n

Our extracurriculars keep us busy. Hannah is pretty great at piano. She is picking up chord theory so she can play worship music and enjoying a bit of a break to learn some Christmas music this month. This unit we had a trip to the Mayborn with friends and a children’s production of Rapunzel. We still have our weekly park day outings and Girl’s Ministry meetings. Both kiddo also participated in a History Fair with Hannah doing a board on what she learned about Squanto. And we had trips to visit family and birthday parties in there too!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
