Baby Boy Moehring Is Here!

The moment I had been waiting and praying for started on Monday morning around 2:00 AM. I started having contractions about 10 min apart and then 8 min apart and they stayed in that range until around 7:00 in the morning. Doctor says not to go to the hospital unless the contractions are 5 minutes apart for an hour. They didn’t get any closer together, but they started to be more intense so I told Nate to take me to the hospital. We arrived around 8:00 and discovered that I was at 7 cm and was able to get admitted and an epidural pretty quickly. That made me a much happier momma! I was fully dilated by 10:30 and we turned off the epidural so I could feel to push. The nurses thought this would be a fast delivery; however, it turns out baby has a big head and I ended up pushing for about 2 hours. About this time, my epidural was almost gone so we opted to have my OB use forceps to help get baby out.

Benjamin Henry Moehring arrived at 1:35 PM on Monday November 16, 2009. He weighed 8 lbs 13 oz, was 20 1/2 in long, with 14 1/2 in head circumference. Benjamin has biblical origins meaning “son of the right hand” and he was the favored son of Jacob and Rachel. Its also about the same popularity as Hannah as a baby name. We’re not sure exactly how we picked it other than we already had Henry as the middle name and it seemed to go best. Henry is significant since Becca’s maternal grandfather has 17 grandchildren (and now 3 great grandchildren) and no boy namesakes!

We were saddened to discover that Hannah was not allowed to come to the hospital since it is flu season. We were discharged last night and Hannah finally got to meet her baby brother.

Thankfully we have grandparents here through Thanksgiving to help celebrate and support.
