Earth Rocks

We attended a very dry and boring geology of the Superstitions presentation at Usery Mountain Park with our homeschool group. Thankfully, that same day we decided to also do a hike so the trip wasn’t wasted. So, when the group posted another earth science activity, we weren’t sure if we wanted to go. But this was much more kid-friendly. They had stations and lots of hands on stuff. The kids got to do a volcano eruption, used graham crackers and chocolate icing to simulate how the plates (crackers) move and the magma (icing) creates new land, and they got to touch some quick sand (corn starch mix). There was also a large table set up with samples of many different types of rocks that they could pick up and look at.
Very nice!
