Last 6 weeks of 4th Grade

Hannah finished up 4th grade a few weeks ago. To the left is the front of her lapbook that contains pictures of all the books she worked through. More photos of her lapbook are here. She made the book all by herself and enjoys looking back over the year.

In bible, we finished reading through Proverbs, a devotional called Starting Strong, and memorized Hebrews 12.

In history/social studies, we closed out our spines Encyclopedia of American History, Landmark History of the American People, Vol 2, Story of the USA Book 4, and Wee Sing America. The last couple weeks were kind of weird for me as we got to the more recent past that I actually lived through. But I was young and my perceptions of what was going on in the world and America were not quite what was actually happening. It was good for me to get a “historical view” of the the last few decades.

Read Alouds included Miracles on Maple Hill, In Search of the Source, Rules of the Road, and Perilous Road. We also closed out our poetry book, Illustrated Book of Children’s Poems.

Reading / LA was just a continuation of the rest of the year. Sequential Spelling 2, weekly cursive assignment, Grammar Ace, Wordly Wise 3000: Book 4, and one creative writing assignment a week.

Our readers got longer toward the end. This unit she read Bruchko, From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler, and Because of Winn Dixie.

We are still a little behind in science and hoping to finish before we start 5th grade, but if not, we’ll be fine. During this unit we worked through the rest of the electricity unit in Mysteries and Marvels of Science, Energy, Discover and Do Level 4 and TOPS Electricity. Then we did an astronomy unit with Book of Astronomy and Space and have started our last unit on Complete Book of the Microscope.

For awhile for math we worked on our facts by using the Flashmaster, but we are back in the second half of Horizons 4 and continuing to work through it.

Extras we are lot of fun at the end of this school year. We went to the Ranger Museum with some friends and the Mayborn. We had our weekly piano, park, and Girl’s Ministries activities. And we had our trip across the country to visit Aunt Lisa and family. We’ve had various other ‘summer time’ activities with friends and birthday parties as well.
