4th 6 Weeks of 4th Grade

Benjamin also finished up his 24th week right before the shelter in place so I’m playing catch up for him too.

Bible: Benjamin is currently joining Hannah for her bible reading requirement during morning devotions. Then he has a section of scripture to read to himself each day and some memory work for each week. Usually scripture, but he did work on the Gettysburg Address during this unit.

In history/social studies, we continued with our second half of American history with our spines Landmark History of the American People, Volume 2, Children’s Encyclopedia of American History, and The World Wars. We have selections from Wee Sing America for some cultural tunes/poems.

Read Alouds included Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry (which always makes me cry), King of the Mound, The Winged Watchman (which also makes me cry), and poetry selections from Oxford Illustrated Children’s Poems

Reading / LA: We have spelling with Sequential Spelling 2, cursive assignment, grammar with The Grammar Ace, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4. We also have a creative writing assignment and current events assignment each week.

During this unit, Benjamin read George Washington Carver (I think he really liked learning about him), Thimble Summer, and Gone Away Lake.

Science is in a pretty good routine. We continued with Mysteries and Marvels of Science, and used TOPS Electricity with Discover and Do DVD for our weekly experiments.

Math: Horizons 4 is going well. Ben does pretty good with math concepts and the hardest part is getting him to show the steps instead of doing them in his head.

Extras are our favorite part. It has impressed me that Benjamin is still tinkering away at learning the harmonica, his favorite songs to try right now are Beatles songs. Haha. We do language with Duolingo. He finished up the winter basketball season during this unit and wants to play soccer this summer. We had a lot of visits with sister during this time with fun outings. We also had family time with a MN trip for super grandpa’s funeral and Joel’s 5th bday party.
