5th 6 Weeks of 4th Grade

We finished up week 30 a couple weeks ago, but have had a bit of a busy time getting sister and associated activities recently. We have about a month left.

Bible: Benjamin is currently joining Hannah for her bible reading requirement during morning devotions. Then he has a section of scripture to read to himself each day and some memory work for each week. He has one long section left to finish up. We also have a devotional called Starting Strong.

In history/social studies, we continued with our second half of American history with our spines Landmark History of the American People, Volume 2, and finished Children’s Encyclopedia of American History. In Search of the Source was an additional cultural book. We have selections from Wee Sing America for some cultural tunes/poems. I also ordered the Lapbook kit for some extra things to do this summer.

Read Alouds included Miracles on Maple Hill, In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson, started A Summer of Sundays, and poetry selections from Oxford Illustrated Children’s Poems

Reading / LA: We have spelling with Sequential Spelling 2, cursive assignment, grammar with The Grammar Ace, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4. We also have a creative writing assignment and current events assignment from World Kids each week.

During this unit, Benjamin read The Seventeenth SwapPlain Girl, and Henry Reed, Inc.

Science is in a pretty good routine. We finished Mysteries and Marvels of Science, started Usborne Book of Astronomy and Space and used TOPS Electricity with Discover and Do DVD for our weekly experiments.

Math: Horizons 4 continues well. We moved into some geometry recently and he is starting fractions.

Extras are still our favorite part. Outside activities have been limited, we missed out on a soccer season at the Y with friends. We do get outside to play by the creek and on the trampoline and basketball goal. But Benjamin is still practicing harmonica for music and Duolingo for Spanish. We got to spend some special time with family during the lockdown and we have been preparing for sister to move in. So we weren’t bored!
