5th 6 Weeks of 6th Grade

Only 6 weeks left! I have enjoyed studying this period of history with Hannah. Learning a lot about events around the world during the Middle Ages.

In bible, we are focused on getting Hannah’s bible reading requirement for Girl’s Ministries completed. Benjamin and Joel and Sister join us. We have a devotional called Children’s Bible Field Guide that we read weekly as well. Hannah continues memorizing longer scripture passages for each unit, this one was Psalm 90.

In history/social studies, we continued with our spines: The Story of the World: The Middle Ages and The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History. We do a bit of reading from The World of Columbus and Sons as well. We also do a current events assignment with the World Teen subscription about once a week. I purchased a Lapbook for World History I and we will work on completing it even after we have finished school for  the year.

Read Alouds we finished were Master Cornhill, and I, Juan de Pareja. We started The Second Mrs. Giaconda. We also read daily selections of poetry from Favorite Poems Old and New.

Reading / LA is in a good routine. We have spelling in Sequential Spelling 3, a weekly cursive assignment, grammar in Keys to Good Language, and vocabulary in Wordly Wise 3000, Book 6, as well as a weekly creative assignment. Hannah read these books to herself: Adam of the RoadCatherine Called Birdy, and The Beduin’s Gazelle.

Science has been good except the experiments.  Our spines are Usborne Encyclopedia of Planet Earth and Chemically Active. We started Evolution: the Grand Experiment.

Math is working through Horizons 5 still. We are doing pretty good with fractions and percentages.

Extras include continuing to practice piano. Hannah has a new song she should be singing soon at church. We use Duolingo for language practice. We haven’t had a lot of other extras with all the shutdowns, but we have had a lot of time outside, at the creek, riding bikes. We also got to spend some special family time together and got prepared for having Sister move in.
