Finished 4th Grade

Benjamin finished up 4th grade this week. Somewhere in there, we got off a week from Hannah but oh well. The second half of American History is pretty rough, but we made it and learned a lot.

Bible: Benjamin is still joining Hannah for her bible reading requirement during morning devotions. Then he has a section of scripture to read to himself each day and some memory work for each week. He did Hebrews 12 this unit. We also finished Starting Strong.

In history/social studies, we continued with our second half of American history with our spines Landmark History of the American People, Volume 2, and finished Children’s Encyclopedia of American History. We finished In Search of the Source and Lights in a Dark Place. We have selections from Wee Sing America for some cultural tunes/poems. I also ordered the Lapbook kit for some extra things to do this summer.

Read Alouds We finished Summer of Sundays and Every Soul a Star, as well as poetry selections from Oxford Illustrated Children’s Poems

Reading / LA: We have spelling with Sequential Spelling 2, cursive assignment, grammar with The Grammar Ace, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4. We also have a creative writing assignment and current events assignment from World Kids each week. Benjamin’s final writing assignment was to write a puppet show. Fun!

During this unit, Benjamin read Bruckho, From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiller, and Because of Winn Dixie.

Science is in a pretty good routine. We finished Usborne Book of Astronomy and Space, and The Complete Book of the Microscope, and used TOPS Electricity with Discover and Do DVD for our weekly experiments.

Math: Horizons 4 continues. We have a few lessons left to finish up the year.

Extras He still practices the harmonica, but I think we need to get him a new / better one. We do Duolingo for Spanish. During this unit, we had a mission trip, Joel’s baptism, and Benjamin got to go to Kid’s Camp, which he really enjoyed. Not much else due to the virus rules. Lots of playing on the trampoline and basketball.
