1st 6 Weeks of 10th Grade

Weeks 1-6 of Hannah’s sophomore year are done. Since she is taking a dual credit course this semester, she is being more careful to stay on track with all of her schoolwork. This will probably help all of us this year, though we lose some of our schedule freedom.

Here is her schedule: Core 200 Church History, English Lit, Biology, Geometry, Volleyball and Learning Frameworks (MCC)

Her bible component consists of The Westminster Shorter Catechism and a devotional book called More Than a Carpenter. She has some verses to memorize each week. She is continuing with our church as we read through the bible in a year on YouVersion and she often has homework or memory work from her youth group.

Her history this year is Church History. Her current spines are The Story of ChristianityThe 100 Most Important Events in Christian History, and From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya. She also started The Church of the East. I have never studied this topic so it is interesting to glean small amounts from her. I don’t have time to read all the books this year but maybe by the time Joel gets here I’ll get to. We will have a timeline and current events that she completes on Fridays.

Math is Math U See Geometry. It is a recording of a teaching and then a week of work followed by a test. She has been doing well so far.

She is studying English Literature for LA. All the classics. She started this year with The Best of Father Brown and Oliver Twist. She has A Child’s Anthology of Poetry for poetry selections each week. For the most part, she has a writing assignment each week. We have been through enough rounds of LA to know that she is supposed to plan, research, draft, revise, and finalize. She recognizes the steps but has been squishing them together as her schedule moves during the week. Learning how to prioritize. 😉 She also is continuing her Vocabulary from Classic Roots with book C, Analogies 2,  and Sequential Spelling with book 7.

Science is Apologia Biology. She has a text and suggested reading plan and experiments. We’ll be using a microscope this year as well as doing some dissecting.

Her Learning Frameworks class is basically a how to succeed in college course. They make all the incoming students take it. She is doing well, making all her assignments, and participating. As she does well, she will be able to take a harder course load.

Hannah’s primary extra right now is volleyball. She is the all around setter for her JV team. We have practice or games at least three nights a week. She enjoys it and is a great all around player. She also shares a weekly babysitting responsibility with Ben. She leads our praise and worship at church when she is available and often plays on the stage even when she isn’t leading. She has been logging miles on her driver’s ed so that she’ll be ready to get her license in the spring. A good first 6 weeks!
