2nd 6 Weeks of 8th Grade

Still staying pretty steady with school. We have had a few day camps on school days but have made up the work. From end of Sept to first week of Nov we got weeks 7-12 wrapped up.

Benjamin is following along with our church as we read the bible this year on YouVersion. He has school memory work as well as assignments from youth group each week. Benjamin finished up Disappointment With God this unit.

In history/social studies, we finished Aristotle Leads the Way and started Newton At The Center. Ben also read Ida Scudder and started The Clockwork Universe. He still does timeline and current events on Fridays.

Nate has read Mister Max: The book of Lost Things and Penny From Heaven with Benjamin this unit.

For readers, Benjamin has read The Gammage Cup, Everything on a Waffle, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He also has National Geographic Book of Nature Poetry for some poetry selections each week.

Math is Math U See Algebra I and Benjamin continues to do well.

LA consists of Sequential Spelling 5 for spelling, Classical Roots A for Latin, Wordly Wise Book 8 for vocabulary. A weekly creative assignment. Benjamin has just been barely squeaking by on his writing assignments. Will probably need to do some extra work with him on essays.

Science is built into his reading and history, but he still has an experiment each week. He has been managing to get these done on Saturdays.

Ben spent most of the unit going to his sister’s volleyball games but he finally started basketball practice and will have games through early Feb. Mom and Dad signed up to be assistant coach and he isn’t too upset about that. We watched the partial eclipse as a family in preparation for the full one in the spring. We saw the Coopers when they were in Glen Rose so we could check out the dinosaur footprints. He enjoys being our tech man at church. He helps out when we ask him to and had to step in to teach a science lesson when Dad had jury duty. Other than that, Ben spends most of his free time playing video games with friends and listening to music.
