We are halfway through Core 220. Benjamin is doing a good job in all subjects except writing which we have to push him on, but most of the time we get it done.
In history/social studies, we have three main spines: The Story of Christianity, The 100 Most Important Events in Christian History, and From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya. He also has timeline and a current events assignment each week.
I’ve been able to do about half of his read alouds with him this unit (when I am busy he just moves on and reads to himself so he doesn’t get behind). This unit we finished Pride and Prejudice. Then we read A Solitary Blue, Romeo and Juliet, and started Moon Over Manifest. He also has daily readings from A Child’s Anthology of Poetry.
Language is still where he tries to squeak by. He has a weekly creative writing assignment and a weekly short timed essay. He does vocabulary with Vocabulary From Classic Roots B and Wordly Wise 3000, Book 9, analogies with Analogies 1, and spelling with Sequential Spelling 6.
Science is Discovering Design with Earth Science which includes experiments, vocabulary, reviews, and tests. Math is Math U See Geometry. Ben does well in both of these areas.
For dual credit, Benjamin finished “Learning Frameworks” with his first college A. He’ll be taking Spanish with Hannah in the spring.
Benjamin has been staying busy with basketball. Some weeks he has mostly games with no practices in between. Coach has played him in all the different positions and he seems to be able to handle the moving around. He babysits about once a week and helps out as our tech man at church. He attends most of our church and Connections events, went to winter retreat with the youth group, and helped with our day camp in December. Family events this unit were Thanksgiving in Bandera (and CP and Kerrville), Christmas with Gram in Waco, and Christmas with Diltz and Schader in Tennessee.
