Finished week 30 at the end of April. We are in the home stretch. Only 6 weeks left. Will wrap up in June sometime.
Family devotions include our reading plan or a short devotion. For school, Joel has a book called Talking With Your Kids About God and a memory passage or two each week along with verses from church or Rangers.
For history and social studies he is continuing in a book called American Indian Prayer Guide. We have American History: A Visual Encyclopedia and The Beginner’s American History and every now and then a reading from Landmark History of the American People as our spines. This unit we finished The Constitution of the United States, The Bill of Rights: Why it Matters to You, and The Lewis and Clark Expedition. Each week we have a current events assignment and timeline entries.
Nate and Joel read The White House is Burning, Alamo All-Stars, Justin Morgan Had a Horse, The Journeyman, and started Winter Danger for read alouds. Each week they have a selection from A Child’s Introduction to Poetry.
Language Arts has a rhythm. He has spelling with Sequential Spelling 1, a cursive assignment each week, grammar with The Grammar Ace, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4, and usually a creative assignment each week. His readers this unit were Sarah Witcher’s Story, Naya Nuki, and Fever 1793.
Science consists of mostly readings from the Usbone Illustrated Elementary Science Dictionary. He has a weekly reading from DK Findout! Engineering which he finished and now we are in Engineered! Engineering Design at Work. Finally, he has a weekly experiment with Discover and Do: Level D.
Math is Horizons 4 and usually do some Prodigy as a supplement.
Joel doesn’t have an extracurricular. He plays drums every other week at church which includes practicing and making worship practice. He has children’s class and Royal Rangers weekly. They have been working on a skinning and tanning badge so he got to help skin a rabbit. He got to tag along to some of Ginny’s track, we had two trips to CP for cousin activities, Gram came to visit for a week around Easter. He gets to babysit almost weekly now for some littles at our house and is enjoying having some spending money.
