Family devotions included our church reading plan or a short devotion. We had a devotion book to do in preparation for the mission trip. For school, Joel had a book called Talking With Your Kids About God and a memory passage or two each week along with verses from church or Rangers.
For history and social studies he finished American Indian Prayer Guide. We are halfway through American History: A Visual Encyclopedia, The Beginner’s American History, and Landmark History of the American People as our spines. Each week we have a current events assignment and timeline entries.
Nate and Joel read the following for read alouds this unit: Adinoram Judson: Bound for Burma and The Story of the Amistad. Each week they have a selection from A Child’s Introduction to Poetry.
Language Arts had a weekly rhythm. He had spelling with Sequential Spelling 1, a cursive assignment each week, grammar with The Grammar Ace, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4, and usually a creative assignment each week. His readers this unit were Timmy O’Dowd and the Big Ditch, Sarah Plain and Tall, Tikta’ Liktak, Stone Fox, and Jericho’s Journey.
Science consists of mostly readings from the Usbone Illustrated Elementary Science Dictionary. He has a weekly reading from Engineered! Engineering Design at Work. We also read What are Waves? Finally, he has a weekly experiment with Discover and Do: Level D.
Joel wrapped up Math with Horizons 4 and we will do some Prodigy as a supplement this summer.
Joel doesn’t have an extracurricular right now. He plays drums every other week at church which includes practicing and making worship practice. He has children’s class and Royal Rangers weekly. He helps babysit some littles on a regular basis. During this unit we had a campout at Grandma’s house, LEAD conference, and a zoo trip. Joel got invited to the races and also went fishing with Dad in the creek.
