Even though we stayed on track for the beginning of school, life happened and it took us a bit longer to get our second set of weeks in. That is the joy of homeschooling! Finished week 12 mid-November. Ben is taking 3 dual credit classes so we are prioritizing those and sometimes letting home classes slip, we will catch them up when MCC is on break.
For bible, we do family devotions after breakfast, a few minutes of journaling, and prayer. Benjamin has a devotional bible study called Bible Study Sampler that he is working through. We also finished a theology book called Why Pray? and started God’s Will, God’s Best. He also has memory passages each week, he managed to memorize all of Psalm 139 recently, probably the longest passage he has had to do!
We are in US history this year. He is taking US HIST I and II at MCC this fall and spring and doing the US History Language arts with me. I still make him add things to his timeline and he has a current events activity each week. He also has daily readings from A Treasury of Poetry. He has had a couple of papers to write and we help him with revisions but I feel like he is doing pretty well.
Ben is taking Dual Credit Algebra I this semester and Algebra II in the spring. It is more work than he is used to but he has been doing well.
In Language, we have spelling with Sequential Spelling 7, a cursive assignment each week, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 10 and some analogies and Latin thrown in every now and then. This unit we read Indian Captive: The Story of Mary Jemison, They Loved to Laugh, and we started The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
Science this semester is Biology I at MCC. He has two lectures and two labs each week. He doesn’t really like the class, not going to be a biologist, but he is doing well.
Ben’s regulars are youth on Tuesday nights, helping with tech at church, and playing video games as much as he can. As mentioned, we have been a bit busy with extras and family. Benjamin was on off season but still got to go to a lot of volleyball for Hannah and Ginny especially when Gram or Grandpa or Grandma came up for games. He only got to help us with one VBS because the other days conflicted with his dual credit classes, but he was our game leader that day and was very helpful. We had a trip to Marble Falls for Becca’s birthday, trip to Kerrville to watch Lilly play vball, trip to CP for Diltz camp, and a trip to Minnesota for Morgan’s wedding. Coopers visited and Millers visited. Nate, Ben, and Joel finished up insanity right be for basketball practice started in Oct. The first game was just recently but the football boys are in playoffs so they are playing without some of the guys. Benjamin has also been working through drivers education and practicing driving. Should be getting his license soon. We had a quiet birthday celebration per his request but happy to have a healthy 16 yo in the house.
