12 weeks down. We had lots of distractions during this unit, but they were lots of fun. We just roll school when we aren’t able to finish it.
For bible, we do family devotions after breakfast, a few minutes of journaling, and prayer. Ginny has a book called the BBC Manual for personal bible study and devotions. She finished But Don’t All Religions Lead to God and started How to Stay Christian in High School. She has a bible passage each day and a memory verse or two each week.
Continuing with our spines: The Story of the World:Early Modern Times and Usborne Encyclopedia of History. We also do a timeline activity and current events each week.
Read alouds for this unit were The Sherwood Ring, Mary Jones and Her Bible, and Only the Names Remain. We also read a couple poems from Classic Poetry each week.
Math is Horizons Pre-Algebra. Ginny does some Prodigy math as a supplement.
In Language, we have spelling with Sequential Spelling 3 and 4 (we are finishing up 3), a cursive assignment each week, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7, and a creative assignment each week. This unit Ginny read Escape Across the Wide Sea, The Ravenmaster’s Secret, and Calico Bush.
Science this year is “Physical Science”. Our spines are Chemistry: Investigate the Matter that Makes Up Your World and Super Simple Physics. We also read selections from How Things Work: Inside Out! each week. We have an experiment book called Discover & Do: Level H and some videos for our weekly experiments.
Ginny’s regular weekly events are youth on Tuesdays and Girls Ministries on Wednesdays. She is also in charge of Ronald the kitten and some chores. But as I said, we had a lot of extras this unit. Ginny wrapped up her junior high volleyball career and got to watch a lot of Hannah’s volleyball as well. Nate took Joel and Ginny to the Founder’s Day carnival. Ginny was our tech helper at our vbs/day camps at church on school off days. That was very helpful since Benjamin was in school during those days. We had a Diltz trip to Marble Falls for Becca’s birthday, a trip to Kerrville to watch Lilly play volleyball, Diltz grandparents and Gram both came up for volleyball games, we drove to MN for a Henry wedding, the Coopers visited, and the Millers visited. 🙂 Ginny helped us with our carnival games at the elementary fall fest and the McGregor hay barn events. Nate, Hannah, Ginny, and Joel went to family camp with Rangers also. Lots to keep us busy!
