24 weeks finished! It always feels like the winter weeks are the longest. We have had a few distractions: VBS days, snow days, and Benjamin state basketball. In general, we do pretty well at staying on task.
For bible, family devotions happen first, followed by a few minutes of journaling, and prayer. Ginny has a book called the BBC Manual for personal bible study and devotions. We are also using Live Like a Jesus Freak as supplement. She has a bible passage to read each day and a memory verse or two each week.
In history, our spines are: The Story of the World:The Modern Age supplementing with Usborne Encyclopedia of History. We also do a timeline activity and current events each week.
Read alouds for this unit were The Good Master, The Singing Tree, and The War That Saved My Life. We also read a couple poems from Classic Poetry each week.
Math is Horizons Pre-Algebra. We added in the worksheets for extra practice and Ginny has been making better grades on her tests recently. She also does some “Prodigy” math as a supplement.
In Language the routine is the same each week. We have spelling with Sequential Spelling 4, a cursive assignment each week, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7, and a creative assignment each week. Ginny finished Nory Ryan’s Song, and read Homeless Bird and Angel on the Square and started Snow Treasure.
Our science spines are Electricity and Magnetism and Super Simple Physics. We also read selections from How Things Work: Inside Out! each week. We have an experiment book called Discover & Do: Level H and some videos to help us with our weekly experiments. This unit had additional selections from What’s Your Potential and Electricity and Magnetism.
Ginny decided not to run in track this year. It was going to be more competitive and she might only get to be in one event so we all decided that it was a lot of effort for not much fun. We signed her up for a 10-week watercolor art class and there have been some homeschool art club events that she has attended as well. She also went to the junior high winter dance. We had a few snow days to remind us why we like to live in the south and Ginny got to go to lots of Ben and Joel’s basketball games. She also got to enjoy all our birthday festivities including a trip to San Antonio to ice skate. She helps with tech at our VBS days. Other than that, she attends Rangers on Wednesdays and youth on Tuesdays.
