We finished week 24 at the beginning of April. Ben is working about half time speed on our homeschool sections because he is taking US HIST, SPAN II, and Pre Cal at MCC. His hardest semester so far. Plus he got the job at Subway so my schedule and his aren’t lining up as often as I would like. But he has all summer to finish this year so I think we’ll be ok. He’s learning time management skills.
For bible, we do family devotions first after breakfast. Then Ben has a few minutes of journaling and prayer. Benjamin has a devotional bible study called Bible Study Sampler that he is working through. We ready The Bible Jesus Read for theology and started Evidence for Jesus. He also has memory work each week, he memorized the Gettysburg Address this unit.Â
Benjamin has US History Language arts with me but the history portion at MCC. I still make him add things to his timeline and he has a current events activity each week. If he has a paper due for Dual Credit, I accept it for a hs grade as well. He also has daily readings from A Treasury of Poetry.
Ben is taking PreCal this semester to get on track for transferring to A&M for engineering. It is a good challenge for him and we can’t help as much as we used to (it has been a few years since I did upper level math). I think he’s doing ok, but we’ll have to wait to see his final. If he can get it done though, he won’t have to worry about a lot of the “weed out” classes when he gets to college.
In Language, we have spelling with Sequential Spelling 7, a cursive assignment each week, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 10 and some analogies and Latin thrown in every now and then. This unit we finished Bonanza Girl, read The Call of the Wild and My Heart Lies South, and started To Kill A Mockingbird.
No science this semester.
He is taking Spanish II with Hannah. We thought they would study together but Hannah’s schedule has her out of the house a lot so they just see each other at class. 🙂
Extras: We wrapped up Ben’s basketball in early February, he got his license and first job at Subway the next week, and started getting himself to places pretty quickly. He has been washing a lot of dishes but recently has started making more sandwiches. We had a good amount of family things with Nate and Hannah’s birthdays, then a trip to San Antonio for Joel’s birthday and ice skating. Hannah has been getting Benjamin to work out with her in our garage and she also pulls him in to some of her social things at MCC or Tx Wind. We had a trip to CP/Bandera for Easter and Ben was part of a skit the youth put on for service at church. He still runs our tech most Sundays at church and helps out as needed for cleaning at church or at our rental houses. Having another driver has been very helpful!
