Finished 10th Grade

Benjamin got his last 6 weeks of Core 100 done in June and July after all the crazy from the spring semester. We managed to finish this week before next school year started. haha. We are starting a little earlier than we used to start because Ben and Ginny both start fall sports on Monday.

For bible, we do family devotions first after breakfast. Then Ben has a few minutes of journaling and prayer. Benjamin has a devotional bible study called Bible Study Sampler that finished. We also finished Evidence for Jesus. He had memory work each week, he memorized sections of Matthew 5 this unit.

Ben took a 6 week English class at MCC so we didn’t do any additional writing assignments at home. He added in the second English that he needs in the second 6 week option this summer so he’ll only have Technical Writing left for language.

In Language Arts, we finished spelling with Sequential Spelling 7, a cursive assignment each week, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 10 and some analogies and Latin thrown in every now and then. This unit we read To Kill A Mockingbird, Rip Van Winkle, Dear Mr. Henshaw, Rules of the Road, The View from Saturday, A Wrinkle in Time, and When You Reach Me. He also had daily readings from A Treasury of Poetry.

This unit Benjamin had regular open gyms for basketball and volleyball as well as going to a community center some weeks to get some more practice in. In July he had a few summer league bball games. He has been working a lot of hours at Subway but is going to have to cut back when the volleyball starts as he’ll be practicing or having games 4-5 days a week and then he’ll have to cut back even more when his fall MCC semester starts. I think as of now, his manager is content to let him work a couple shifts on the weekends. At church we had youth camp, an outreach at a World Cup game, and a youth worship night event. He bought a car the day he got home from camp.

Benjamin’s regular activity is being our tech team for church events and attending youth on Tuesdays – he’ll miss a few of those during volleyball season. When he isn’t at work, the gym, or doing school he’s playing on his video games.
