18 weeks down! We had to catch up a little on home classes while dual credit was on break but we are back to where we want to be. Benjamin says he is having to ‘learn how to study’ in those harder classes which is good becasue he’ll need those skills in college.
For bible, we do family devotions first after breakfast. Then Ben has a few minutes of journaling and prayer. Benjamin has a devotional bible study called Bible Study Sampler that he is working through. We finished God’s Will, God’s Best and started The Bible Jesus Read for theology. He also has memory work each week, this unit he is working on a speech.
He finished US History I at MCC and started US History II. HE is doing US History Language arts with me. I still make him add things to his timeline and he has a current events activity each week. He also has daily readings from A Treasury of Poetry. He did well in his MCC class.
Ben finished Dual Credit Algebra I with an A and they put him in PreCal in the spring to be on the engineering track. This will be a good test for him whether engineering is where he wants to be. It will be a good challenge and he will be getting into stuff that mom and dad might not remember very well anymore if he needs help. 😉
In Language, we have spelling with Sequential Spelling 7, a cursive assignment each week, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 10 and some analogies and Latin thrown in every now and then. This unit we finished Adventures of Tom Sawyer and read Elijah of Buxton and Bound for Oregon.
Science was Biology I. It turns out he didn’t need to take that as he needs a Chem and two Physics for the engineering track. Oops. He also didn’t really like it, but he did make an A. No science this semester.
He is taking Spanish II with Hannah which is not going to transfer for engineering but we need it for high school. Hopefully they will help each other study and both do well.
Ben is busy with basketball almost every day. Practice or games or watching film. He attends youth on Tuesdays and is my helper at Connections parties. We had lots of family time including Tday at Bandera, Nov birthdays at CP, Christmas at Bandera and CP, and NYE at Bandera. Got to see the Schaders and WA Moehrings. Benjamin turned 16 and didn’t want a party so we just had cake at home. We have tried a couple times to get his license but have had issues at each appointment. We had church Christmas and caroling as well at NYE bingo and worship. Ben got to stay in CP with the other kids to go to River Walk and SA zoo. He was also a helper at our day camps since he was on break from MCC. He is still our main tach man at church but we’re hoping to train up some others.
