18 weeks finished. Woo! We are doing pretty good on schedule despite all the holiday happenings.
For bible, family devotions happen first, followed by a few minutes of journaling, and prayer. Ginny has a book called the BBC Manual for personal bible study and devotions. We are also using Live Like a Jesus Freak as supplement. She has a bible passage to read each day and a memory verse or two each week. She recently memorized “The Bridge” a simple way to share the gospel.
In history, our spines are: finishing The Story of the World:Early Modern Times, starting The Story of the World:The Modern Age, and supplementing with Usborne Encyclopedia of History. We also do a timeline activity and current events each week.
Read alouds for this unit were The Great Trouble, and Banner in the Sky. She started The Good Master. We also read a couple poems from Classic Poetry each week.
Math is Horizons Pre-Algebra. This is not her favorite subject but we mostly get through the lessons each day. Ginny does some “Prodigy” math as a supplement.
In Language, we have spelling with Sequential Spelling 4 (we are finished up book 3), a cursive assignment each week, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7, and a creative assignment each week. She had a multi-week paper to do this unit. Ginny read In Search of Honor, and Betsy and the Emperor. She started Nory Ryan’s Song.
Our science spines are Electricity and Magnetism and Super Simple Physics. We also read selections from How Things Work: Inside Out! each week. We have an experiment book called Discover & Do: Level H and some videos to help us with our weekly experiments.
Ginny doesn’t have an extracurricular right now though she attends art club when she can with a teen girls group. Her regular activities include youth on Tuesdays and Girl’s Ministry on Wednesdays. The youth had winter retreat in November. She tags along to lots of Ben or Joel’s basketball games and is a helper for our day camps at church. We had lots of family time this unit. Gram broke her arm before Thanksgiving in Bandera so Ginny and Joel got to stay a few extra days to be helpers. We saw the CP/Kerrville crew for November birthdays. Then we were down again for Christmas in Bandera and Christmas 2 in Kerrville. Schaders were in from New York and everyone visited the alamo and River Walk and Justin, Rhiley, and Lilly got baptised! The kids stayed a few extra days and also got to see the Washington Moehrings. At church we had a Christmas party and caroling and a NYE bingo and worship as well as two day camps. Lots of fun during this unit!
