Godparents

Nate and I had the honor of becoming godparents for a beautiful little girl named Azalia Kayne yesterday. We were a little uneasy with it at fist because her family is moving across the country in a few months so we didn’t know how we could keep our promise to “help raise her in the Christian faith”. But her parents believe that the best thing we can do for her is pray and since prayer doesn’t require our presence, we agreed. I really enjoyed the ceremony because we were able to help baptize her. The only thing they didn’t do was light a candle for her. So maybe for her first baptismal anniversary, I’ll buy her a little candle and send her the Matthew verse about letting your light shine before others.

Apparently there is a godparents day, but Nate and I have yet to find out when that is. Maybe we should so we can send cards to our godparents. 🙂

So now, I (we) have signed up for a lifetime of praying for our goddaughter. I’m worried that I will not do a good job of doing that. But hope (and pray) for the endurance. I think it will also cause me to stay more in touch with her family than others that we have moved away from or that have moved away from us. I also hope it will force me to pray more regularly. We’ll have to see how it goes. I trust that I will grow tremendously from this experience.
