Mission of Motherhood

Chapter 2 – Beautiful by Design

Genesis 3:20 “The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” Footnote: Eve sounds like the Hebrew for life-giver and resembles the word for living.

What is the significance of Eve’s name? Eve is the mother of all of God’s children. The first mother. God created her that way.
What was God’s purpose for Eve? To be Adam’s companion, but also to bear his children.

Genesis 1:27-28 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

The first part of God’s blessing is to be fruitful and multiply. Having children is part of our responsibilities from God. How well am I being a steward of my responsibility to subdue the world? How can my being a mother show God’s love to those around me?

Colossians 2:8 “See to it hat no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human traditions according to the elemental spirits of th world, and not according to Christ.”

Does the world have parenting philosophies and traditions that I should be avoiding? The in thing to do these days is “be your child’s friend” as in never say no. But in the end, is that really being a good friend as the child never learns any morals or restraints? Materialism is everywhere I turn. How can I shield my family (how can I shield me) from that?

Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

This is such a great passage, but can lead you down the wrong roads so easily. This doesn’t mean I will never screw up or make the wrong decision. It just means that God’s grace will cover me. How can I ensure that God’s grace will cover my children? I can’t. All I can do is pray and try to be the best parent I can.
