The 3rd Law of Parenting

If you were an engineering degree in college, you probably had to take Thermodynamics. I try to block that time from my memory, but I really enjoyed learning about entropy which essentially boils down to “chaos”. The 3rd Law of Thermodynamics is called the law of entropy and states that everything in the known universe will revert to chaos over time. Well ordered (architected) buildings will eventually erode and crumble, things that are placed high will eventually fall, etc. I’m sure I botched that description (I did make a C in that class).

So my 3rd Law of Parenting is that the babysitter will always call and cancel the night before an evening you have planned that is not flexible. Oh yes, they will never put you in a tight bind when whatever you had planned could really be put off until tomorrow or maybe next week. This occurrence only happens when you’ve had tickets to a show for 2 months and its the only night they are in town and you were really looking forward to a nice evening with your spouse without your child(ren). Hehe. Then your household reverts to “chaos” as you try to replan in the 18 hours between “the call” and your date.
