Geography

Now, this is an area that mommy is not very good at. Geology, yes; geography, no. So . . . our goal until Hannah turns 5 is to learn the continents and then focus on each continent and read some of our stories from our Sonlight P4/5 core that come from that continent. My goal is to actually learn where the countries and such are supposed to be in this world, I’ve always been a little fuzzy in that area. I’m not spending a lot of time looking up data, but just the statistics info on wikipedia for each continent.

We started off with a world map and I looked up a continent song to try to help Hannah remember them. We’ll keep working on that until we get it down.

This week and next are stories from North America (specifically we have some Native American stories, stories from Mexico, and stories from Puerto Rico). We also did a North America map. According to Wikipedia, there are supposed to be 23 countries but I think we only managed to get about 16 on our map. Those little island countries are tiny (and some of them I didn’t even know existed)! Also, mommy learned that Iceland is part of Europe, not North America. 😉

Today Hannah was disappointed we didn’t have another map to color. (Even though she complained about coloring the other two.) We have South America next, but not for a couple weeks.

  1. I ought to do more with the kids at home since they don’t get a ton of this at school. I need to print out a bunch of blank maps! 🙂
