P4/5 Cost Analysis

money-300x277I have had people ask me how much I spend on schooling, so will post this for P4/5 the same way I did for P3/4 (Post here).

Since this was the second core I purchased and I got it at almost the same time as we got P3/4 (because we weren’t sure which one we were going to do with Hannah), I wasn’t too savvy yet at picking things up used or watching Ebay for them. Since then, we’ve also had a wishlist of things we still need for ‘next year’ and have had small success at getting some of them as gifts for birthdays or other occasions. I had a few of the books already and a friend had handed down an old instructors guide for the LA. I did use the old guide for Hannah, but Sonlight updated it last year, so I went ahead and purchased the updated one for Ben for this year. I also needed to repurchase consumables for Benjamin to use this year.

That being said we ended up a little bit under Sonlight’s full core price (which includes a discount to buy all at once).
Sonlight full P4/5, LAK, HWT, and option Explode the Code with two sets of consumables: ~$525
Our final cost: ~$485

And . . . when you divide it by two children:
School cost per child for P4/5 (one year of preschool curriculum): ~$243

26 books, 4 workbooks, and an Instructors Guide for the core; plus handwriting teacher’s guide and workbook; plus 3 books, 3 workbooks, a set of early readers, and an Instructor’s Guide for Language Arts! I think that’s a pretty good deal for the amount of content we got out of it for Hannah and will hopefully get out of it for Benjamin.

Note: We do have supply costs, but I don’t track it because we would have that cost anyway if the kids went to public school. We probably spend less than having to buy all new stuff each fall for each kid.
