YA or Fiction For Me

I’ve decided that I don’t like adult novels, they are too depressing and full of nasty stuff. I actually threw two books away the other day because I couldn’t see myself recommending them to anyone else. I’m going back to my normal fantasy and young adult genres. Especially books that have dragons.

  1. Karen R Those are my favorite too!

Leslie W There’s a reason I get most of my books from the YA section at Half Price Books.
    Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Yep!

Ralph H Ever read anything by Frank Peretti ?

Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Yes. I liked the ones I have read.

    Jenny B Totally agree

    Kay B Try…Inkheat, Inkspell, Inkdeath!
Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Have ’em on my bookshelf. Hannah just read one and we watched the movie. 🙂
Kay B Books waaaaay better than the movie!

Jessica R Tamora Pierce! Anything by her is excellent!
Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring I have 14 of her books in my goodreads

    Cally D Funny same here!

Belinda V I have become a prude, for sure. Lol

Terah Lee They have my vote! I love fantasy and SCI-Fi.

Deborah L Have you ever read the Percy Jackson series?
Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Not as thrilled with his writing. I’ve read a few.
Deborah L Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring I wouldn’t be interested in it except the author is an old friend of mine. Rick Riordan. I do happen to know he hates the movie(s) made from his book(s)
Ellen N Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Did you read any of the Heroes of Olympus series? It’s Riordan’s second set, based on Roman mythology instead of Greek. I enjoyed them much more than I did the Percy Jackson series. The Kane Chronicles (Egyptian) are pretty good, too.
Deborah L Ellen N – I love hearing good things about Rick. He was destined for this and its jolly to know he’s appreciated 🙂

Blair O I agree. I don’t understand why so much of “women’s fiction” basically consists of nothing more than horrifically depressing events and internal struggle. I have that in the real world! Go YA and dragon fantasy!

Jenny M Have you the the Lorian Legacies series?? It starts with I Am Four. It’s sci-fi, but in today’s setting. I loved the whole series!!
Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring On my to read list now. 😉

Rebecca C I think u would like Lisa Windgate she just writes about life and no bad stuff
Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Historical fiction is on my “I kinda like it” list. Still too real. Haha
Rebecca C Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring lol well I just like easy reads that I can fall asleep to 😀 but I love mysteries the most

Kathy W My boys love the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini….New York Times bestselling author at 19 years of age (home schooled and graduated High School at 15 years of age); pretty cool!
Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Have those too! 🙂 They should try Ranger’s Apprentice and the follow on series Brotherband Chronicles. Very good and exciting!
Kathy W oooo, I didn’t know! I’ll tell them, thanks!

Lacey W Kathy W I finally started Eragon for the first time last week, but only made it through the first third or so – it feels very depressing to me. Is there enough happy things in it to keep reading?

Beck F I only read ya or youth books, lol. I read an entire series that was for kids around 9 or 10. Loved it so much I’m now actually reading it to my kids, lol.

Amber B I agree! Kid lit and YA all the way!

Stephanie E Agreed! You’re welcome to peruse my library for some things to borrow if you’re in Aggieland this fall.

Bill N Beth C Have you tried Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling) adult crime who dunnit? I haven’t started them.
Beck F I tried reading one of those and the first chapter had too much cussing. For my taste. I didn’t get past that part.

Doti G Becca, what are Hannah’s favorite books these days? Need ideas for Aspen.
Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring She has read Dragon Rider and the sequel to that as well as the Inkheart series recently. She’s been slowly working through Babysitters Club. She doesn’t have a lot of time for extra reading as her school reading is getting more intense. She has really been enjoying our school books though which are more historical fiction usually.

Ralph H After my divorce I threw alot of stuff out. One thing I remember I threw out was my ex’s romance novels she purchased over the years. I didn’t think much of it at the time but I threw out 4 recycling bins full of just the books she collected.

Rebecca Diltz Nate Moehring Those are raunchy, yuck

Vickie S I collect cookbooks. Lol Maybe because I like to cook.

  2. Corey W If you are interested in Folklore meets fantasy types of books, the “Bear and the Nightingale” series was a an interesting read with lots of Slavic folklore mixed in. “Spinning Silver” was also an interesting folklore/fantasy read.
