2nd 6 Weeks of B+C

Ginny is making good progress on Core B+C. We got weeks 7-12 done over the course of two months. It is easier to keep on trucking after the holiday distractions are over.

Ginny is working on learning how to find the passages in a regular bible. In January, Active Love Church started studying “The Story” so that is what we have been doing during our morning devotions as a family. Then Ginny still has a school reading each day and a memory assignment each week.

In history/social studies, our main spine for the year is The Usborne Book of World History and we add in Usborne Time Traveler as a supplement. We use Window on the World for social studies as well as Geography Songs for geography.

For read alouds, we read Charlotte’s Web and Little Pear. We started Detectives in Togas. We also have The Aesop for Children and 104 Poems of Whimsy and Wisdom for our extra reading/poetry selections each week.

Ginny is fast tracking through LA2. I just let it roll over as we finish each week’s worth of work (got 8 weeks done vs 6 of core). We are trying to catch some gaps and work on work ethics. She has spelling lists, Explode the Code 6 for grammar, Wordly Wise A for vocabulary, and a weekly creative assignment. During this unit she read Frog and Toad All YearDaniel’s Duck, Amelia BedeliaNate the GreatFrog and Toad Together, The Big Balloon Race, and The Sword in the Tree

For science, we are using a new experiment book, Discover and Do: 2nd Grade. She also read Magic School Bus: At the Waterworks, What is the World Made Of?, and finished DK Findout! Earth. We have a book called See How It’s Made that shows how different items are produced and we read about one item a week.

Ginny is still working through Horizons 3 for math. We are still filling in some gaps and she needs to practice her multiplication so we have Prodigy for some supplemental work.

Extras for Ginny include weekly piano lessons as well as daily practice, karate on Mondays and Wednesdays (belt testing in Feb and now orange belt), and Royal Rangers on Wednesdays. During this unit we had church events like pancakes at the park and missionaries, Connections events like crafts and winter day camps, and family birthday events (Lilly, Hannah, Nate, and Joel all have Feb birthdays!). We had a few snow days (5th year in a row for Waco) and planned/hosted a Daddy Daughter Date for McGregor area families.
