4th 6 Weeks of 6th Grade

24 weeks down for Core G for Benjamin!

For devotions, we are following along with our church and studying The Story. Benjamin also has a school reading each day, a weekly chapter from International Children’s Bible Field Guide, a weekly memory verse, and adds stickers to his timeline book on Fridays.

In history/social studies, we have The Story of the World: The Middle Ages as a spine and also use Usborne Encyclopedia of World History as a supplement. Every now and then we read a section of a little booklet called The Kingdom Strikes Back. We were mostly in Old Europe era. Benjamin does a current event assignment on Fridays with World Kids magazine.

Read Alouds this unit were A Single Shard, The Great and Terrible Quest, and The Hidden Treasure of Glaston. Our poetry book selections come from Favorite Poems Old and New

In language, he has spelling with Sequential Spelling 3, grammar with Keys to Good Language 6, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 6, a cursive assignment, and a creative assignment each week.

Benjamin’s readers are pretty interesting historical fictions. He finished up Flame Over Tara, Son of Charlemagne, Proud Taste For Scarlet and Miniver, and Black Horses For the King

Out science main spines are What’s Science All About? and Chemically Active. He has been able to do most of the experiments on his own even though we don’t like this book very much. During this unit we also worked through The Usborne Encyclopedia of Planet Earth

Math is Horizons 6. He does pretty well with new math concepts.

Benjamin’s main extras are karate and Royal Rangers. He decided not to play basketball but was a good help teaching Joel and Ginny during their season. He helps a lot at Connections and Active Love Church events and has a friend game time on Tuesdays with his buddies. During this unit, our little foster guy went home, we had a tornado watch at Connections, a friend’s wedding, and a field trip to watch the llamas get sheared. We participated in some fun Easter themed events including a cross walk, seder dinner (Benjamin does not like horseradish), and neighborhood egg hunt. We have a lot of fun!
