4th 6 Weeks of 4th Grade

Ginny completed week 24 of her 4th grade core the first week of June. We are in a pretty good routine, but still trying to make up a little bit of ground.

For bible we all have a devotion together. Right now, we are working through The Story with our church. For school, she reads directly out of her bible the assigned passages and works on the weekly memory verse.

In history/social studies, our spines are The Usborne Time Traveler and The Usborne Book of World History. For social studies, we read selections from Window on the World, and for geography, we are working through Geography Songs

Read Alouds included Tales of Robin HoodThe Door in the Wall, and Henry Huggins.  We have selections from Aesop for Children and 104 Poems of Whimsy and Wisdom for poetry and supplemental.

Ginny is continuing to work through Horizons 3 and using Prodigy as supplemental and for practice and to continue to fill in gaps.

Reading / LA: We are working through LA3 at a somewhat faster than normal pace. We got roughly 10 weeks done in the same time as 6 weeks of regular core. We’ll eventually get on level, hopefully sometime in the next school year. In LA3, we have grammar in Phonics C, a weekly cursive assignment, vocabulary with Wordly Wise B, spelling, and weekly creative assignments. She also read to herself the following books: Riding the Pony ExpressThe Secret ValleyThird Grade Detectives #1 and #3, The Chalk Box KidThe Paint Brush Kid, and The Littles. When she is ahead on reading, she is working through the Magic Treehouse series.

Science has been pretty fun. We have been working through Usborne World of Animals as a science unit but it is also reinforcing our geography studies as we learn where the animals live. For experiments we use Discover and Do: 2nd Grade Science Experiments. We are also working through a book called Usborne Coding for Beginners Using Scratch as an intro to coding practices.

Ginny has fun with her extras. She has weekly piano lesson and daily practice, twice weekly karate, and Rangers on Wednesdays. She and Joel finished their first season of basketball and are looking forward to possibly trying soccer this summer. Ginny was baptized in April and a friend from Austin was able to come witness so that was special. All the kids had a campout with Rangers down by the creek and a bonfire and also received their spring awards at the end of May. All the kids also leveled up to green belt. And we had two celebrations for Ginny’s 10 birthday (with friends and with family). Lots of fun to be had this unit!
