Halfway through 5th Grade

Ginny finished week 18 at the end of February. She is doing pretty well in this level of history and writing. We are still a little behind in math but she has been working hard.

In bible, we are working through some Stars material as our devotional content. For school, we have a book called Starting Strong and daily bible selections. We also read about and pray for a native group each week using American Indian Prayer Guide. And we have a weekly memory selection of a scripture.

In history/social studies, our spines are American History: A Visual Encyclopedia and Landmark History of the American People. We do timeline once a week and current events on Fridays with World Kids.

Read Alouds were Carry On, Mr. Bowditch and Adoniram Judson: Bound for Burma. Our poetry book for the year is How to Eat a Poem.

In Reading / LA we have Sequential Spelling 1 for spelling, Wordly Wise 3000 Book 4 for vocabulary, and Grammar Ace for grammar. She has a weekly creative assignment or project. We do a cursive activity each week.

Ginny read By the Great Horn Spoon, Freedom Train, and The Great Turkey Walk.

For Science we are working through the Discover and Do Science A science videos and experiments with Joel. This unit we read Traits and Attributes and sections from Did you Know? Science. She also had a weekly reading from The Story of Inventions.

Math is Horizons 4. She is still working Prodigy for some supplemental practice to help her with her multiplication/division facts. We will move straight into 5 when she is finished.

Ginny’s extras were continuing with her piano lessons and participating in some volleyball clinics to see if she wants to play in the fall. We had a trip to Bandera to help Gram burn her pile, lots of sibling sports between Hannah and Benjamin, and regular church and Connections activities each week. We had a couple big events in February. We hosted our second Daddy Daughter Dance for the McGregor area and a day camp on an off school day in Febraury. Ginny likes to type stories and play gaga ball with friends.
