Finished 7th Grade

Benjamin wrapped up 7th grade in mid-July. He has some lingering science experiments to finish up but is mostly done and on summer break until mid-August.

Benjamin finished hi devotional called The BBC Manual. His theological book was Daring to Live on the Edge. He read along with our church reading plan and also had weekly memory work.  Youth has been on break for July but will start up again in August.

In history/social studies, Benjamin completed reading The Story of the World: The Modern Age and Usborne Encyclopedia 12,000 Years of World History. Benjamin had a current event assignment once a week using World Kids magazine. And he got all his timeline figures for this year added to his timeline.

Read alouds this unit were Under the Egg and The BreadwinnerWe also finished up our poetry selections from Classic Poetry.

For language we have Sequential Spelling 4 for spelling, a cursive assignment each week just to stay in practice, vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7, and a creative assignment each week.

This unit Benjamin read New KidPay Attention Carter JonesIt’s A Jungle Out There, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

In science, we finished Planet Earth and Garbage and worked the associated labs. He also read Weather and Climate Change.

Benjamin finished out Horizons Pre-Algebra with a high B on his final test. We think he is good to go into Algebra I next year. Horizons doesn’t go any higher so we are switching to Math U See.

Benjamin didn’t have any specific extra curricular this summer but that doesn’t keep him from staying busy. He helps at church in the sound booth when we are there. We had District Council in June and Ben won a Smash Bros tournament at PK Retreat. Our youth hosted an evening of fun for area youth groups and Ben went to youth camp at the end of June. Mom and Ben participated in Connections’ Mommy Son event and Benjamin won a prize for fastest obstacle course time. Connections is on summer mode with some ‘school like’ activities in the morning, followed by pool time, and then back to Connections for afternoon games. Benjamin makes sure he gets his school work done before game time.

Mom and Dad have been busy helping at a fireworks stand and with two rental houses turning over and Benjamin has been mostly helpful with some yard work and cleaning that needed to be done. He has picked up a lawn job for a friend and also babysits every now and then.

We had a family trip to Nashville in July to visit cousins.

Have about a month until he starts 8th grade!
