Last 6 Weeks of 5th Grade

We finished out Core D+E at the end of July and had a little bit of science to clean up, but this is the record of what we did. Mom was busy with Connections summer school so Daddy mostly covered the last unit with Ginny.

In bible, we finished up some Ranger Kids material with Joel during devotions. For school, we finished a devotional book called Starting Strong and also had daily bible selections. We read about and prayed for a native group each week using American Indian Prayer Guide. We had a weekly memory selection of a scripture. Ginny got much better at practicing and memorizing longer passages this year. Woohoo!

In history/social studies, our spines were American History: A Visual Encyclopedia and Landmark History of the American People. We finished both of those out. To finish out the year, we read a missionary story called In Search of the Source. We had timeline once a week and current events on Fridays with World Kids.

Read Alouds were Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Cheaper By The Dozen, and In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. Our poetry book for the year was How to Eat a Poem.

In Reading / LA we had Sequential Spelling 1 for spelling, Wordly Wise 3000 Book 4 for vocabulary, and Grammar Ace for grammar. She had a weekly creative assignment or project. We did a cursive activity each week as well.

Ginny read Thimble Summer, The Seventeenth Swap, Miracles on Maple Hill, and A Summer of Sundays to herself.

For Science we are finished the Discover and Do Science A science videos and experiments with Joel. This unit we read sections from Did You Know Science? and Eyewonder Weather.  She also had a weekly reading from The Story of Inventions. To close out the year, she read Robots from National Geographic Kids.

Math is Horizons 4. She is still working Prodigy for some supplemental practice. We will continue to do math through the summer and start level 5 as soon as we finish 4.

We have had a lot of fun this summer season. We get to go to the pool most week days, we have the bouncy, and we have regular Connections game time which the kids still enjoy. During this unit we were busy helping with a fireworks stand for 4th of July. Ginny helped us organize it. We had a visit from our Australian cousins and then followed them out to Nashville for some family fun in mid-July. The Schaders met us there so we got some 1st cousin time as well.

Gram has been up to visit and Ginny went to volleyball camp.

Looking forward to starting 6th grade soon!
