12 Weeks of 6th Grade

I usually feel behind by the time we hit the holidays, but with Hannah taking a college class she is keeping us all on track.

For bible, Ginny participates in our family devotions, and has bible passages and memory work. She is slowly finishing some Stars material that we have.  She also has kid’s class memory work and she attended the Good News Club that we hosted at the elementary. For school we’ve been reading through The Case for a Creator for Kids

In history/social studies, we wrapped up a unit on Korea and completed a unit on Japan and Russia. Our spine is Journey to the Eastern Hemisphere. She has notebook pages to help remember important content. We also read selections from a book called 100 Gateway Cities. She has a timeline and current events assignment at the end of each week. This unit we also read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes and I Rode A Horse of Milk White Jade. We took a side note and read Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? as an economics overview.

Read Alouds included The Master Puppeteer, . We also have All the Small Poems as our poetry collection.

For math, Ginny is making progress on Horizons 5 this year. We will keep using Prodigy as a supplement.

In LA we have a weekly cursive assignment, spelling with Sequential Spelling 2, grammar with Keys to Good Language 6, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000 Book 5. Each week we have a writing assignment. We are working on the whole writing and revising process. Ginny read  The Big Wave, Born in the Year of Courage, The Cat Who Went to Heaven, and Burying the Sun

Science spines are The Usborne Complete Book of Human Body and Blood and Guts. Every now and then we have a selection from Food and Nutrition for Every Kid. During this unit we also read Understanding Your Brain.

Ginny’s main extra was to play volleyball on the jr hi Liberty team. They all got a lot better by the end of the season. I think she will want to play again. She has gotten on a steady medicine routine and takes her blood pressure readings each morning to ensure she is on track. Other than that, she gets to do all the Connections and LAMP Ministries events and help out as we need her to.
