4th 6 Weeks of 8th Grade

Only 12 weeks left of junior high for Benjamin. We are on track to actually finish in May this year. Exciting!

Benjamin is following along with our church as we read the bible this year with the Bible Project reading plan on YouVersion. He also has school memory work each week. Benjamin finished Finding Truth for his theology book this unit.

In history/social studies, he finished Newton At The Center and started Einstein Adds a New Dimension. Ben also read The Mystery of the Periodic Table, Stuff Matters, and Bomb: The Race to Build. He still does timeline and current events on Fridays. Benjamin has decided to spend some of his late night awake time reading school books (so he can have more game time during the day). So he has mostly been doing all of his reading to himself but sometimes Nate gets to help out. His read alouds were Shakespeare’s Secret, Half A Chance, and Code Talkers.

For readers, Benjamin finished Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, read The Westing Game, A Christmas Carol, and The Giver. He also has National Geographic Book of Nature Poetry for some poetry selections each week.

Math is Math U See Algebra I and Benjamin finishes easily each week. He recently took an “abilities” questionnaire and scored highly on computation and planning/organizing type abilities.

LA consists of Sequential Spelling 5 for spelling, Classical Roots A for Latin, Wordly Wise Book 8 for vocabulary. Ben is starting to do a little bit better on his creative writing assignments. Still needs polishing but the higher level of effort is appreciated.

Science is built into his reading and history, but he still has an experiment each week. He doesn’t really like science, or maybe just the experiments.

Benjamin had a great end of his 8th grade season of basketball. His team made it to the championship bracket of the state tournament, he improved a lot over the season and he has decided to make basketball his sport. He also continues to be our tech man at church and babysits once or twice a week for spending money. He spends the rest of his time playing video games. Gram came up for a long visit to watch some of Ben’s games and hang out for birthdays and we made a quick trip down to Kerrville to watch Lilly play basketball (and Amy coach).
