5th 6 Weeks of 6th Grade

30 weeks down. 6 to go. Looking at finishing toward the end of May. Will probably do some TX history this summer, and reading and math review to stay fresh.

For bible, Ginny participates in our family devotions, and has bible passages to read and memory work. She also has kid’s class memory work for church. She is also trying to wrap up a reading of the New Testament for Stars.

In history/social studies, our spine is Journey to the Eastern Hemisphere. She has notebook pages that correspond with it to help remember content. This unit we worked through Africa. We also read selections from a book called 100 Gateway Cities. This unit we read Living Water in the Desert and started Mary Slessor: Forward into Calabar. She has a timeline and current events assignment at the end of each week.

Read Alouds included Seven Daughters and Seven Sons and Cornelia and the Audacious Escapades of the Somerset Sisters. We also have All the Small Poems as our poetry collection.

For math, Ginny is still working through Horizons 5 this year. We continue to use Prodigy as a supplement.

Language Arts has a regular weekly rhythm. We have a weekly cursive assignment, spelling with Sequential Spelling 2, grammar with Keys to Good Language 6, and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000 Book 5. Each week we have a creative writing assignment.

For readers, Ginny read King of the Wind and A Girl Named Disaster.

Our science spine is The Usborne Complete Book of Human Body. Every now and then we have a selection from Food and Nutrition for Every Kid. During this unit Ginny read The Care and Keeping of You for Girls and Improve Your Survival Skills

Ginny has been attending a short track season for upper elementary and will be going to one track meet in April. She also hangs out with us at all of our church and Connections events. We learned how to make a chicken dish in March. Joel invited her to go to the monster truck show for his birthday and we had a pretty good Easter. Since Hannah got her license, she has been taking all of the kids to Rangers again which is nice.
