Day 5

Today began the hard day. We had an organization come in that packages shelf stable food for organizations around the world. Since the virus, their demand has greatly increased. The KCDC had a goal to package 50,000 meals! They had multiple shifts of volunteers coming in. We worked a shift in the morning and everyone (including the littles) did really well. When some started to get tired, they took a break to paint rocks for the neighbors. We ate a quick lunch and worked a second shift. Then we found ourselves with a mostly free afternoon because one shift had been moved to the evening for people who work day shifts to be able to help.

We tried again to find water. Some locals had told us about the Shawnee Mission Park that had a swimming area. We got there, but due to everything, we needed a reservation and it was full. No swimming again! The park was very large and had some great play areas so we still had fun. Then we thought we should try out KC BBQ and found a place on the way back to the Dream Center called Black Box BBQ. We must have been hungry because we ate family style and not much came back with us.

We ran one more shift of food packaging. Everyone was tired that night!
