5th 6 Weeks of 9th Grade

While everyone else is finishing up the school year, we have 6 weeks left. That’s what we get for doing all the fun stuff we do, haha. Hannah finished week 30 last week. We should finish in July taking into account some of the summer activities we are doing. Hannah is going to have to get on a regular school year schedule as we are planning to do some dual credit courses starting in the fall at our local community college. She is also planning to play volleyball again. Both of those will start in early August.

Hannah’s devotional is Bible Study Sampler. She has also been working through a theological book called The Bible Jesus Read. She has weekly scripture memory for school and also for youth and she is reading along with our church’s year long bible reading plan.

In history/social studies, we worked through the 8th and 9th book in the History of US series. Hannah also read Moonshiner’s Son, Cameron Townsend, and World War II. She has a weekly current events assignment from World Teen magazine.

Language is pretty much the same each week with different creative prompts. She is still doing spelling with Sequential Spelling Book 6 and vocabulary with Wordly Wise 3000 Book 9. She has two ‘extra’ books that are scheduled sporadically; a Latin study called Vocabulary with Classic Roots and an SAT prep workbook called Analogies I.

Hannah’s reading books have included To Kill A MockingbirdBud Not Buddy, A Year Down Yonder, Keeping Score, and A Long Way From Chicago. Her poetry book is A Treasury of Poetry for Young People.

Science is Apologia Physical Science. She has been doing a good job getting it all done on her own.

Hannah’s math text is Math U See Algebra I. She says that Algebra is easier that Pre-Algebra and I told her it is because she did Pre Algebra that Algebra is easier. 😉

Extras have been keeping us busy. Daddy was on sabbatical and then finalized his decision to switch to full time ministry so our schedule has been slowly morphing to include him. We had all our regular Connections and church events as well as a special missions and park service at the end of April. We had a guest worship team but they couldn’t sing that morning so Nate and Hannah had to pinch hit at the last moment and did a great job. Family events included a trip to Kentucky to see cousin Grace graduate from college, a trip to Center Point to share about our Israel trip, and Ginny’s birthday.

Hannah had some life lessons this unit. She had to make the tough choice to put down her pet cat. He had lost a lot of weight and seemed to be in pain but it was still hard on her. She also got her learners permit so we have been doing a bit of driving and talking through different situations. She helped on our trip to Kentucky and also learned about driving in the mud when she got the truck stuck down by the creek. Oops! Daddy helped her learn how to get it out as well.
